UPCYCLE CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTRE SS2, PETALING JAYA
The site is located along the transition streets between residential and commercial, Jalan SS2/24 and SS2/75, ss2, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The site stands at one corner, marking the entrance of the major commercial hub in SS2. SS2 holds the reputation for its wide variety of food, it is a high consumerism area which attracts people from all over Petaling Jaya. The large amount of consumers in SS2 has cause an uncontrollable waste issue. Waste production starts from the morning market to the peak lunch and dinner hours, then to the night market. The unmanaged waste has cause people to lose hope for change and also their sense of community towards SS2. With the theme of Upcycling, waste can be transformed into something valuable instead of being disposed all over the site. The proposed program is an Upcycle Child Development Centre which seeks to create a waste reduction movement, Starting from the young ones, the program provides knowledge about waste processing and provides an opportunity for new ideas and innovation to be brought up to light for the people. The Architecture is a journey, the children circulates up the building with a ramp surrounding the central playground, whereas the visitors circulate in a secured stripped wooden path to experience the upcycling program. The journey will be completed where both ends meet, bringing the community together to restore their sense of community and to make change for the environment.
