NATURE APPRECIATION CENTRE PEKAN SEPANG, SELANGOR

The Nature Appreciate Centre (NAC) is located next to the Environmental Interpretive Centre in Pekan Sepang, Selangor Darul Ehsan, approximately 50km south of Kuala Lumpur. The site is a polluted mangrove swamp caused by unthoughful human activities. The programme of the NAC aims to fight pollution with Nature Transformation as its concept. The journey starts from highlighting the site issue to the visitors, revealing the impact of human activities towards the environment, then providing the opportunity for a change. The NAC allows people to experience nature at its best to create the sense of appreciation. The frontal part of the NAC sinks into the river to enhance the relationship of the architecture and its context. During night, the building will responds to the high tides that cover part of the building by trapping the rubbish in the river. during day, trapped rubbish will be revealed when tides submerge, creating an awareness for the visitors. At the end of the journey, visitors can enjoy the spectacular view at the cafe located at the peak of the building which resembles the structure of a tree supported by a lift core. Before leaving the NAC, visitors are provided with rods and recycle bags to pick the up the rubbish as they move along the boardwalk to the EIC, providing them the opportunity to help save the environment.
