FARMER'S FRUIT MARKET JALAN TUN HS. LEE , KUALA LUMPUR

My site is located at the edge of Jalan Tun Hs Lee, between buildings of Early Modern Styles and facing rows of historical shoplots evolved through time. The back lanes of Jalan Tun Hs Lee are full of fruit vendors due to the high demand of consumers in the area. They are not in proper conditions due to its safety reasons and hygiene. The limited spaces has cause the fruit stalls to be scaterred apart causing inconvenience for the visitors. Unfortunately, bussiness has to go on in order for the vendors to maintain their income. My proposed programme is a Farmer’s Fruit Market, to cater and unite fruit vendors located at back lanes of Jalan Tun Hs Lee and turn my market into a bussiness icon targeting students and workers. My aim is to encourage a healthy living by allowing them to consume healthy food. Designing an infill building, I truely respect the fundamental of geometry, form and proportion that exist in my site, therefore, it has become the main principle of my design. Permeability is the concept of my design, inspired by the pedestrian movement that continues through my site from Jalan Tun Hs Lee. My building provides a sense of openess and free flowing circulation, greenery plays an important role as well in relation to my concept of five senses and passive design strategies, it allows and filters natural lighting into spaces, works as sun shading, controls users’ privacy and improves the quality of spaces.
